William Addison Makely  - October 30, 2009

 RAVENA William Addison Makely of Ormond by the Sea, Fla, passed away peacefully after a short illness with his loving family by his side on October 30, 2009.

     William was born on October 26, 1926 in Ravena to the late Daniel A. and Jessie C. Makely.  He graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy with a B.S. in Economics and Accounting in 1974.  His first position was as a payroll and cost clerk at the Ravena Iron Co.  He then served as a cost clerk, senior accountant, chief accountant and finally as the Assistant Controller and Officer of the Atlantic Cement Co. until his retirement in 1986.

     Bill served in the US Army as a Tec 5 in Hq 54th AART Bn in Fort Bliss, Texas where he processed discharges and later served as an aide for Lt. Colonel Morgan recording testimony for court martial and disciplinary hearings until his honorable discharge in 1947.

     Bill also served as an elected official on the Board of Trustees in the Village of Ravena where he served as a trustee, deputy mayor, finance and budget officer and police and park commissioner from 1964 to 1982.  He was instrumental in and supervised the development of the Mosher Park pool complex.

     Bill was a member of the American Legion, the Moose Club of Ormond Beach and the Congregational Christian Church, Ravena.

     Bill was married to Elizabeth Makely who predeceased him in April 2009 after 55 years of marriage.  Survivors include his daughter, Debra A. Shave (Craig) of Ravena;  son, Kevin M. Makely (Terri) of Gloversville;  sister Elvera Trombley (Russell) of Ravena;  and grandchildren, Justin and Christopher Tofinchio of Ravena.  Bill was predeceased by his brother Daniel A. Makely.

     A memorial service will be held 6 PM Friday, November 13th at the Congregational Christian Church, Ravena.  A dinner reception will follow.  In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Congregational Christian Church, 175 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
