Irene Testa “Murph” Rotello - November 5, 2009
 

RAVENA – Irene Testa “Murph” Rotello, 97 of Florida and Ravena, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2009 in Florida.  Irene was the daughter of the late Luciano and Carmela Testa.  She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s Academy, NY and received her B.S. Degree in Home Economics and Dietetics from Chestnut Hill College, PA.  She interned and worked at Bellevue Hospital in NY City for 4 years before returning home to Niagara Falls to serve as Chief Dietitian for St. Mary’s Hospital and to care for her loved and aging mother, Carmela Testa.  She was a member of the American Dietetic Association.

     Irene moved to Ravena in 1945 with her family where she and her husband Joe operated Dayle’s Soda Shop and Ravena Bowling Lanes.  In 1962 she joined the NYS Department of Social Services as a nutritionist for child –caring institutions, retiring in 1975.

     Irene is survived by her son, Tom (Ollie) of Coeymans;  grandsons, Joseph (Katie) of Coeymans and Frank of Wasilla, Alaska;  great-grandsons, Tommy and Anthony;  brother-in-law, Anthony (Kay) Rotella;  and sis-in-law, Anna Mae Rotella of Niagara Falls;  and many nieces and nephews.

     Irene was predeceased by Joe, her husband of 54 years, their daughter Carol Ann Rotello and her brother Angelo.

     Funeral services will be held 9 AM Tuesday, November 10th at St. Patrick’s Church, Ravena.  Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Monday from 3 to 7 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Patrick’s Church, 21 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
