COEYMANS – David Edwin Austin, 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, July 4.  Dave was born March 5, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY.  He graduated from Marlboro High School near Newburg, NY,  Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and the University of Gwelph in Ontario, Canada, then enlisted for a term of service in the U.S. Army.  Afterward, Dave moved to Albany County where he worked as a Wildlife Biologist for NY DEC, Delmar Unit.  He met and married Barbara DeGraff, and they settled in the Town of Coeymans in 1968 to raise their family.  Dave retired from EnCon in 1991, and spent more than 20 years as a volunteer with Selkirk Boy Scout Troop 81, planning and attending many trips with the scouts, and serving as a mentor for many Eagle Scout candidates.  Dave also volunteered at fundraiser events for the Coeymans Hollow Fire Department, and traveled the country to visit family and see landmarks.

     David was predeceased by his father and stepmother Edwin and Clara Austin, his mother Helen Tracy Austin, his wife Barbara DeGraff Austin, his son Alex Austin, his brother Raymond Austin, and his sister Barbara Beresford-Matthews.

     He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ted and Mary Austin, and grandchildren Nikkole, JT, and Matthew of Roaring Brook Twp., PA.  He is also survived by his brother Frederick Austin of Wisconsin, stepsister Julie Darrigan (world traveler), stepsister Kathy Justino of Newburg, NY, a number of siblings-in-law, many cousins and numerous nieces and nephews and all their children in many states. He was beloved “Uncle Dave” to a multitude.

     Friends and Family are invited to give their respects at Babcock Funeral Home, 19 Pulver Ave, Ravena, NY on Sunday, July 12 from 11 AM to 3 PM. Memorial gatherings and interment at Chuctanunda Cemetery in Scotch Bush, NY will be at later dates.
