NEW BALTIMORE – Clifton (Cliff) S. Baldwin, 98, passed away peacefully April 22, 2015. Cliff was born in Albany, NY on June 13, 1916 to the late Harry J. and Harriette Greene Baldwin. He was the loving husband for 54 years to his late wife, Estella Albright Baldwin. Cliff lived 95 of his almost 99 years of life in New Baltimore near the Hudson River which he loved so much. He could tell stories endlessly about growing up in New Baltimore and working as a teenager on the Hudson rowing for miles to light the lanterns for the dredging company as well as working on the sweep floats. He was a wealth of information. In his later years he would keep track of all the boat traffic and could tell you the name of every tug company that pulled or pushed a barge up and down the Hudson. Cliff graduated from Ravena High School in 1934 and went on to attend the University of Vermont. In 1943 he was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served in WWII in the China-Burma-India theatre for 2 ½ years. In 1950 he and Stella bought and operated the former Blauvelt Greenhouses on Main Street in Ravena. In 1960 they built Baldwin’s Flowerland on Route 9-W where they grew and arranged many flowers until they retired in 1980. Along with being a florist, Cliff served his Town between 1962 - 80 as Clerk, Supervisor, Greene County Legislator and Chairman of the Board of Legislators for 4 years. Next to his great love for his family was his devotion to the Cornell Hook and Ladder Fire Company of which he was a very proud 80+-year member, serving the last several years as Fire Police. Also very dear to his heart was the New Baltimore Reformed Church where he was an 86-year member serving as Elder and Deacon over the years. Cliff was an Organizing Commander and Life Member of the New Baltimore American Legion Post 1614; a 60-plus year member of the VFW and a 70-plus year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an honorary member of the Rensselaer Senior Center where he made many new friends, line-danced at least twice a week and went on numerous trips. Cliff has lived a very busy and happy life – enjoyed being a friend of so many!

A very special Dad and Grandpa “B” leaves to cherish his memory and many stories, his daughter, Judy B. Plummer and son-in-law Tom; granddaughters, Barbara Joralemon-Rogers (Dan) and Tricia Joralemon-Selko (Brad); and great grandchildren, Daniel and Jaclyn Rogers of whom he was so very proud. Also “adopted” grandpa B of Joey Valentino, Mary Lou Beneck (Dick), Lisa Revens (Mark) and the late Tommy Valentino (Kristie); and great-grandpa B to Jeremy, Stephan, Paige, Kelsey, Courtney, Lexi, Lauren and Lindsey; and recently 3 great-great granddaughters and a great-great grandson. He just loved all the children around him. Also survived by the Plummer grandchildren and their families as well as nephews and nieces.

Cliff was predeceased by his three brothers, James H. Baldwin, Harry J. Baldwin and John W. Baldwin and his sister, Esther Bolt.
