RAVENA – Sylvester B. “Sonny” Frese, 67, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at home. Sonny lived all his life in Ravena, son of the late Italo and Armenia Frese. He was an US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. After 28 years of service he retired in 1996 as a Lieutenant from the Albany County Sheriff’s Department. Sonny was part of the Frese family that owned and operated the famous Frese’s Bakery in Ravena known all over the capital district. Sonny was head of security at the Altamont Fair for many years. He was a regular customer at the former Bonfare and the Ravena Diner where he would socialize with his many friends. Sonny was a member and past Chief of the Ravena Hose Co. But most of all his life revolved around his loving children and grandchildren.
Sonny was predeceased by his wife Shirley A. Turner Frese. Survivors include his children, Michael (Susan) Frese of Schenectady, Jeanne (Scott) Biernacki of Coeymans Hollow, Joanne (Kyle) Murphy of Voorheesville, Matthew (Fallon) Frese of Glenville and Jennifer (Kevin) Frick of Selkirk; sister, Cora (Richard) Williams of Ravena; brother, Joseph (Evelyn) Frese of Williamsville, NY; 8 grandchildren, Tyler and Timmy, Michael and Ava, Ella, Bobby, Danny and Benny; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9 AM Thursday, July 21st at St. Patrick’s Church, Ravena. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Coeymans. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Sonny may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, 21 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
