DELMAR – Mildred Badye Grott, 97, of Delmar, New York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, New York, after a brief illness.

Born in Richmond Hill, New York, on December 23, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Wilhemina and Joseph Badye. She married the late Bernard W. Grott on March 7, 1942 who predeceased her on July 28, 2000.

Mildred is survived by her sons James Grott (wife Barbara), and David Grott (wife Mary Lou); daughter Lauren Bachner (husband Bob); six grandchildren: Eric Bachner (wife Tara), William Bachner, Allison Mollenkof (husband Phil), Katie Nash (husband Ben), Tom Grott, and Evan Grott; two great-grandchildren: Ian and Peter Mollenkof.

Mildred was a librarian in West Nyack, New York, prior to her retirement to Copake, New York, where she was an active volunteer in many community programs, including Meals on Wheels, Columbia Memorial Hospital, Women’s Guild of the West Copake Reformed Church, and a member of the Roe Jan Historical Society. After the death of her husband, she moved to Glenmont, New York, where she was a volunteer at the City Mission in Albany, and was active in S.T.A.R.S. (Seniors Teaching and Reaching Students, an intergenerational support program).

Calling hours will be at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 24 at Babcock Funeral Home in Ravena, New York; the funeral service will immediately follow at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Tamlyn officiating. Burial will be held at noon at Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga, New York.
