GUILDERLAND – Ruth Anne McCabe passed away gently in her sleep on
March 9, 2017 just one day after celebrating her 70th wedding
anniversary. She was born Ruth Anne Lacy on March 16, 1920 to
Raymond and Dora Lacy of Livonia, NY. Ruth Anne, known to her
family as “Birdie” for her beautiful singing voice, earned a
Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in music from Eastman School of Music
in Rochester, NY. She used her singing talents as a soloist at the
South Bethlehem and Albany Trinity Methodist churches.
Ruth Anne was the beloved wife of Robert J. McCabe of Ravena, NY;
dear loving mother to Linda A. McCabe Gardner (Guy), Brian R. McCabe
(Lynda), the late Peter L. McCabe and Timothy V. McCabe (Bertie).
Ruth Anne was an amazing grandmother to eleven grandchildren;
Jennifer L. Teems (Scott), Sarah W. Gardner, Jason M. Gardner,
Matthew R. McCabe (Christine), Tyson M. McCabe (Lauren), Christopher
W. McCabe, J. Lacy McCabe, Erica McCabe, Melanie McCabe, Steven
McCabe and Faith McCabe; and great-grandmother to fourteen great-
Ruth Anne was a music teacher in the R-C-S Schools for over 20 years
and worked for Van Curler Music after her retirement. She also
served the community as a volunteer with her church, Albany Medical
Center Hospital, the American Red Cross as well as the Lion’s Club.
She was also known for her delicious homemade jam, amazing molasses
cookies and elderberry pies. Ruth Anne was always a gentle, loving
presence full of grace and wisdom. Her family and friends dearly
miss her and will love her forever.
A memorial service will be held 4 pm on Friday, March 17th at the
Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Friends may call at the funeral on
Friday prior to the service starting at 2 pm.
