COEYMANS – Antoinette Louise “Toni” McNaughton (nee Michaud) crossed over at her home in Coeymans, NY on June 18th. Toni was born in the last throes of the Harding administration into a large and loving family. She grew up with Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover as Presidents, lived through the Depression and saw her teens under FDR. She graduated from the Cortland Normal College (SUNY Cortland) as an elementary school teacher during the Second World War. She began a career as a first grade teacher at the Ravena Central School in 1946. She soon met the band director, a World War II veteran and co-worker that she would spend the next 65 years with as a wife, mother, and co-conspirator in life.

She and Malcolm produced five offspring in rapid succession during the Eisenhower years of robust American Expansionism. She worked through Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, fishing, Little League, ballet, Babe Ruth, High School wrestling, rooms full of practicing musicians, and college educations for all.  She was always willing to sacrifice for her children and work hard for her students. She managed an efficient home and ran a tight ship. She was thrifty and frugal, as only a Depression-era childhood would provide.

Up until her last day at 89+ years of age, she drove (although backing up was not her forte), did her own laundry and shopping, solved her daily crossword, went out to lunch as often as possible, and shared her wit and wisdom with all. She was a lovely lady with a truly generous heart.

Antoinette was pre-deceased by husband, Malcolm, and four of her siblings: Laurence, Eugene, Robert, and Jeannette. She is survived by her children: Michael, Stephen (Constance), David (Sandra), Christine Mara (Joseph), and Jeffrey (Susan); grandchildren: Kaylin (Robert), Ryan, Marissa, Evan, Emily, Timothy, Ian, JaneAnn and Philip; and great-grandchild: Elise Brielle. Toni is also survived by her brothers Paul (Mary Elizabeth), Joseph (Marianne), Charles (Marge), sister Elizabeth (John), and sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Jeannie; as well as, many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 22 from 3 to 5 at the Babcock Funeral Home in Ravena. A Mass will be said at St. Patrick’s Church, Ravena, on Monday, June 23, at 11:00AM.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Antoinette’s name may be made to the Ravena Rescue Squad, PO Box 144., Ravena, NY 12143.
