BALTIMORE – Frances (Fran) M. Melick passed away peacefully at home
Saturday, November 1st, 2014, surrounded by loving members of her
family. Community Hospice of Columbia / Greene kept her pain free
allowing her to live a wonderful full life right up until she was
She is survived by
her husband of 56 years, Marshall (Buddy) B. Melick; a daughter Mary
Melick and partner Thomas Brooks from Burlington County, NJ; A son
Brian Melick and daughter-in-law Susan Farrell-Melick of Ravena, NY.
A brother Donald Mallinger and sister-in-law Debbie Mallinger of
Ohio. Fran was blessed with four grandchildren; Janelle Martin from
NJ; Jarel Martin and his wife Desiree from Oceana NAS, Virginia
Beach, VA; Evan and Brianna Melick from Ravena, NY as well as being
survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Fran was blessed to
live an incredible happy and full life. She retired from Capital
Newspapers - Times Union as Chief Accountant after 35 years of
service during which time she graduated (Sigma Cum Laude) with a
Bachelors of Business from the College of Saint Rose. She worked
part time as a book keeper for the RCS Community Library while
holding several offices as an active member and supporter of the
Hudson - Athens Lighthouse. Fran was an active dance student (square
dancing, line dancing, ballroom, and various styles of Latin dance)
while participating in Silver Sneakers, Zumba and Yoga. An avid
traveler domestically as well as internationally, she and Buddy took
several trips around the US as well as several cruises to include
the Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean; Alaska as well as land
tours in Asia and several in Europe highlighting frequent getaways
to what was to become Fran's favorite - Rockport, Mass. Next to God,
family and friends, the ocean was Fran's salvation.
Fran enjoyed many
hobbies such as stamping, dancing, traveling, reading, and crossword
puzzles. A long sustaining member of the New Baltimore Fire
Company's Ladies Auxiliary, Business and Professional Woman and a
volunteer for many years to help the growth of youth through Girl
Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America, and Junior Achievement.
She was a very active
member and supporter of the New Baltimore Reformed Church serving
many years as a faith educator, committee chair, deacon and church
elder. New Baltimore Reformed Church was her spiritual home.
The family has asked
that in lieu of flowers, donation may be made to either the New
Baltimore Reformed Church, PO Box 434, New Baltimore, NY 12124 or to
the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society, PO Box 145,
Athens, NY 12015 in her memory. Thank you for your consideration.
celebration and memorial of Fran's life will be held Saturday
November 8th, 2014 between 9 am - 12 pm. Funeral service beginning
at 12 pm at the New Baltimore Reformed Church, 52 Church Street, New
Baltimore, NY 12124. Followed by interment at Chestnut Lawn
Cemetery, Route 9W, New Baltimore, NY. Fellowship to follow at New
Baltimore Reformed Church.
