RAVENA- Marie (Liebl) Muller of Coeymans Hollow died Friday, September 23, 2011 with her loving niece, Lorri, at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Ludwig Muller. She was born in Lindenhurst, New York on March 10, 1926 to Sebastian and Katherine Liebl. Marie was a graduate of Lindenhurst High School, and received her BA and MA at New York State College for Teachers at Albany. She began her teaching career in 1946 at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School, eventually becoming math department chair, a position she held for 25 years. After her retirement from a long and distinguished career in the district, she continued teaching at the Doane Stuart School in Albany. Marie’s teaching career was not confined to the classroom. She belonged to and was active in the Association of Math Teachers of New York State and in 1988 received that organization’s Distinguished Service Award. Marie also received the Bertha E. Brimmer Medal as outstanding secondary teacher of New York State. She was elected to Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honor society of women educators, and was active locally and statewide. Marie was involved in many community activities including serving as a member of the R.C.S. Board of Education, the Board of Trustees of the Ravena Free Library, The Ravena Grange, The Little Red School House Historical Society, The Alcove Preservation Association, The Chestnut Lawn Cemetery Association, The Coeymans-Ravena Women’s Club, VanGuard, and the State Education Department Regents Review Board.

Over the years Marie found great enjoyment in spending time at her camp on Sacandaga Reservoir, playing cards with her bridge club of 40 years, attending Broadway plays, gardening, traveling, babysitting, and enjoying time with her college friends (“The Terrible Thirteen”), and fellow math teachers. But, her greatest joy was being “Aunt Marie” to her devoted family and to anyone that needed her love and guidance. She will be forever missed and forever loved by her family and friends.

Marie is survived by her loving nieces and nephews Dale (Patty) Setford, Lorri (Michael) McCarthy, Karen Liebl VanDyk, Brian (Linda) Liebl, Adele Rosenberg, Bonnie (Sam) Persico and Betsy (Gordon) Blunsdon;  her cherished great nieces and nephews: Kurt, Ian, Todd, Courtney and Christopher Setford, Ryan, Patrick, and Tyler McCarthy, Shannon Prendergast, Gwinna VanDyk, Eric and Katie Liebl, Ellen Graffeo and the late David P.
