NEW BALTIMORE – Jessie C. Rarick, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor entered eternal life on Sunday, January 22, 2012 following a brief illness. She is greeted in heaven by her husband, Arnold R. Rarick and daughter Eris Arnelle. Jessie spent her final days reminiscing about all the people she loved and her happy childhood. She was born on May 4, 1923 and grew up on the farm of her parents, Paul and Elizabeth Court on Aquetuck Road, Ravena. Jessie was the oldest of six siblings, Paul Jr. (Duke), Dale, Charlie, Helen Wilsey, and Pauline VanEtten and two foster brothers Richard (Chubby) and Donald (Dinny) Bernard. She graduated from Ravena High School and Cobleskill College with a degree in Animal Husbandry. She worked for several years as a milk tester before she married Arnold and the close family ties increased as she now had more siblings; John and Joan Rarick, Rosemary Court and Doris Rickard. Soon after they were joined by son Leslie A. (Pat) and daughter Claudine (Deanie) L. (Rich) Maile. After some years as a Navy wife the family settled on the Collins Farm in Coeymans Hollow. They later moved to New Baltimore and were joined by another daughter Lisa E. (Don) Przybylowicz/VanAlstyne. Over the years Jessie worked for NYS, as an apple picker and a packer at Shear Farm and a cashier at A & P in Ravena.
Jessie had many hobbies, but especially loved her birds. She always had several bird feeders outside the kitchen window and every visitor was impressed with her knowledge. She appreciated people and the individual gifts of others. She believed in the tradition of hand-written notes and letters and always said “Thank You”. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, nature, going to lunch with her friends, Nickel Socials at the Fire House and especially playing dominoes with her “crew” on Fridays. Many people will smile with fond memories of times spent with Jessie at the family camp in Wells, NY.
Jessie’s children blessed her with 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; Dwayne (Christy) (Andrew, Lainey) Rarick, Robyn (Ryan) (Courtland, Coleman) Gray, Sean (John) Maile, Paul (Becky) (Victoria, Lucas) Maile, Stephan Przybylowicz, Nyssa (Sean) Turner, Katarina Przybylowicz, Shelby Van Alstyne and David Van Alstyne.
A memorial service will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. On behalf of Jessie the family would like to thank Pastors David Milam and Jessica Archer and the members of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and Evercare Hospice for their support during Jessie’s last weeks. And we would be remiss if we didn’t send a final, special thanks from Jessie to her dear friends, neighbors, and relatives who have given her such joy over the years—she loves you all. For those wishing to send a donation in Jessie’s name, the family suggests the NBRC Food and Fellowship Program and the New Baltimore District #1 Fire Company.
