RAVENA -- Patricia A. Stooks (MacPhee) earned her final reward after a valiant and courageous battle with metastatic cancer on November 16, 2014, far exceeding the odds of her diagnosis. Patricia was born in Malden, MA on April 15, 1950. In 1968 she graduated from Melrose High School in Melrose, MA. She left behind the start of a nursing career to become a stewardess with Mohawk Airlines. It was during one of her journeys between Boston and Rome, NY that she met the love of her life, Robert. They shared 43 loving years of marriage, and she always referred to him as her sweetheart. She stayed home to raise their daughters and once they became school aged she began working for NYS. She waitressed at La Casa in Selkirk and Tool’s restaurant in Delmar, was a clerk both at AAA Hudson Valley Auto and NYS. In 1995, Patricia left her state position to follow her dream and returned to the airlines. She enjoyed ten years with American Eagle and American Airlines. She and Bob traveled the world. They visited Belgium, Peru, Germany, Ireland, France, Mexico, Hawaii, and many of the islands of the Caribbean. She looked forward to her Caribbean vacation with her sweetheart each January. It was her years with the airlines where she thrived the most, making life-long friendships with girlfriends that she cherished always. After retiring from the airlines, she returned to work for NYS and chose to retire in July 2014 to focus on being a grandmother Patricia was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and a 38 year member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Ravena, NY. She was a proud parish council member for the past two years. Her faith carried her through her life always. Her love and devotion focused on St. Anthony, whom she consistently relied upon for his intercessory prayers and support. Boston was always her home and being Irish was at the core of her very prideful soul. She always cheered for the Boston sports teams her father raised her to love. She traveled each year with her grandchildren to Fenway to enjoy a game and was never so proud to watch the Red Sox win the World Series in 2013. She is survived by her husband Robert D. Stooks of Ravena, her daughters Jennifer (Patrick) Moore, Allison (Matthew) Behan, and Emily Stooks (Mike Palmiero), as well as her grandchildren whom she adored: Morgan, Madelyn, Maeve, Quinn, Patrick, and Christopher. She leaves behind her brother Brian MacPhee (Joanne) and family of Melrose, MA; sisters-in-law Edna (Stooks) Winners of San Antonio, TX, Carol (Stooks) Goldman of Rome, NY; and brother-in-law Robert Bellinger of Rome, NY. She is survived by 26 nieces and nephews and 17 great nieces and nephews, and dear family friend Lauren Infantino of Loudonville. Patricia is predeceased by her parents Peter and Theresa MacPhee, and her sister Rita MacPhee in 2010; her sisters-in-law Jane (Stooks) Bellinger, Norma Chapman, and brother-in-law William Stooks.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude for all of her family, friends, and staff at NYOH and St. Peters that carried them through this journey. The love that Patricia shared with so many was evidenced by the outpouring of support from family and friends during the hardest times.
