– Richard A. VanValkenburg, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
May 16, 2018 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Throughout
his life, Richard was many things---farmer, businessman, tool
collector, chosen repairman for family and friends, U.S. Army
veteran (proudly serving his country in the Korean War), and a
dreamer. Until his final days, Richard’s memory seemed to serve as
his fuel, often nostalgic in his vivid stories about old times.
Richard is survived by his children, Dawn (Mickey) Sherman, Kim
Moore, Bill VanValkenburg, and Mike (Sheila) VanValkenburg;
grandchildren, Matthew (Marcie) Sherman, Sarah Michelle (Joe) Sandor,
Jeani Sherwood (Sandy), Randy Moore, Benjamin Moore, Breann Moore,
and Michael VanValkenburg Jr.; seven
great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Swartz. Richard was
predeceased by his loving wife, Jean VanValkenburg, daughter,
Michelle “Shelly” VanValkenburg and sister, Joan Leonard.
Funeral services will be held 6 P.M. on Monday, May 21st at the
Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Friends may call at the funeral home
on Monday prior to the service starting at 4 P.M. In lieu of
flowers, the family has requested donations in memory of Richard to
Ravena Rescue Squad, PO Box 144, Ravena, NY 12143.
