– Patrick C. Varcasia, 99, entered eternal life on Wednesday, April
4, 2018. He was born in Ravena, son of the late Gaetano and Mary
Louise Varcasia and was a graduate of Ravena High School. Mr.
Varcasia was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in the Southwest
Pacific and participated in campaigns on Guadalcanal, New Guinea and
the Northern Solomons. He worked as a brakeman-conductor for the
New York Central RR, Penn Central and Conrail with 40 years of
service. Pat was an original founding member and Past Commander of
the Ravena VFW Post 9594 and was involved with the Hudson Valley
Little League during the 1950’s and 1960’s. He loved sports all his
life and was a lifelong N.Y. Yankee fan and was an avid golfer for
many years after he retired.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine
Varcasia; sons, Patrick C. (Patricia) Varcasia, Jr. and Guy (Connie)
Varcasia; four grandchildren, Christopher Varcasia, Danielle
Varcasia Call, Capt. Nicholas Varcasia, USMC and Heather Varcasia.
Patrick was predeceased by his first wife Mary Rose (Pagano)
Varcasia; brothers, Joseph and Frank Varcasia; sisters, Mary Scalzo,
Frances Giacomini and Carmella “Millie” Cornwell.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated
staff at Memorial Hospital and Hospice for their care and
and friends are invited to visit with his family on Friday, April
13th from 9 to 10:30 in the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena followed by
his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in The Church of St. Patrick,
Ravena. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Coeymans.
